All kind of improvements are things that I'm crazy about. Seeing better results after changes you made is really exiting. But how to know what needs to be changed, e.g. in the interface, for archieving better conversion rates? In this post I will show you my favourite tools that help me.
We all know monitoring and analyzing traffic on website is necessary, but when it comes to bringing that idea to life, people rarely use analytics software other than Google Analytics. And that is a mistake. There is a whole lot of tools that can provide you with more detailed and more useful data. To prove a point, today I'm going to shown you three of them we use in The Masters on daily basis. Let’s rock!
Every user counts – Open Tracker
When you’re just after launch or operating in niche category, chances are you’re not getting much traffic. It has a good side: you can spend time analyzing your current website to check what elements of user experience can be improved.
On the other hand, later, when you have thousands of visitors each day, trying to understand their behavior can be tricky, but with proper tools you can gain invaluable knowledge.
But beware: data can be misleading. If you have few visitors daily and Google Analytics tell you all of them spent on average 2 minutes on your site it can mean very different things (you know, statistically speaking, you and your pet have 3 legs each, right?).
If only there was a way to gain knowledge about every single user… wait! There is and it’s called Open Tracker.
Thanks to Open Tracker, you’ll learn how much time each user spent on your site, when he left and what he did in the meantime – click by click. Then you can regroup this data around a series of behavioral traits and look for the reasons why they closed the tab in the first place.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. It has more cool features like precise user location (it shows in which city he is currently present) and historical data about previous visits.
Sit just behind the user - Hotjar
If you were ever involved in design process trying to figure out what would be the best, simplest way to navigate a website, seeing someone actually using your site could have been shocking. People can be really surprising.
You can’t get inside a locked room with all of your potential users to explain what they’re doing wrong (fortunately for both parties, eh?), but you can use Hotjar – a simple tool that records users sessions.
Imagine being able to actually sit next to the user as they explore your website for the first time and see which search terms they typed, where they clicked and what they read. Hotjar lets you do this easily.
Instead of trying to guess what went wrong along the way that made people leave your website, you can actually see their whole journey and get to know the truth. Give it a try!
Engage in conversations
Heard about Startup Weekends? It’s an event, during which people try to build their startup under the guidance of mentors. Mentors – experts in their fields – always encourage participants to go outside the conference (and comfort) zone and speak to people to find out what they think about the product.
How often we forget about such simple things. You could think it’s easier said than done, especially when potential users aren’t hanging out outside your office space, but this is when Livechat comes in handy.
Livechat encourages people to chat with your customer support while visiting website. To ask questions, give feedback, whatever they want.
